DEPARTMENT of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Kwara state has sanctioned 26 filling stations in the Ilorin metropolis and environs for diversion and under- dispensing of petroleum products among other offences.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday after monitoring of some filling stations belonging to major and independent oil marketers in the metropolis, operations controller of the agency, Mr Salvation Phillips, said that six of the stations got outright suspension ranging from four to six months.

He also said that the suspended six filling stations would be prevented from operating or take the product from both government or private stations across the country, adding that they would also be made to pay appropriate fine.

The DPR operations controller, who said that all filling stations in the state had been banned from selling petroleum products at night for security reasons, added that they would only sell between 6 am to 7pm to ensure adequate monitoring.

He also said that sale of petroleum product in Jerry cans had been disallowed, adding that measures had been put in place to prevent black markets operations.

“What we are assuring Kwarans is that we won’t let them down. Whatsoever that is available, we would ensure that they get it at the right time, right quality and quantity,” he said, adding that there had been an improvement in the supply of petroleum products to the state.
