How Buhari’s son, Yusuf, broke his limb in bike accident

Yusuf Buhari

Yusuf Buhari, son of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday night, was involved in a motorbike accident around Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

He was, however, said to be in a stable condition in hospital, following injuries he sustained in the accident.

An online medium had earlier relayed the story on Wednesday, saying Yusuf suffered a head injury and multiple fractures.

The report quoted a family source which said: “Yusuf was trying to overtake his friend when he suddenly veered off the road and skidded. He lay there unconscious for a while before the First Lady was alerted.”

The report further said: “She (First Lady) ordered that he be immediately rushed to Cedarcrest Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

“We are more concerned about the head injury than the fractures. As I speak to you, Yusuf is unconscious.

“An air ambulance may take him out of the country any moment.”

The Presidency, while confirming the incident, said the president’s son indeed had a bike accident on Tuesday night.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on Wednesday, Yusuf broke a limb and had a head injury.

The three-paragraph statement read: “Yusuf Buhari had a bike accident last night around Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“He broke a limb and had an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.

“The president and his wife, Aisha, are thankful to Nigerians for the good wishes and prayers for their son. May God reward you all.”

Meanwhile, prominent Nigerians, in their reactions to the incident, sympathised with President Buhari and wished Yusuf quick recovery.

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, in his twitter handle @bukolasaraki, said: “May the Almighty grant Yusuf Buhari a quick and full recovery. My prayers are with President Buhari and his family at this time.”

Former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, wrote in his Twitter handle, @atiku: “Our thoughts are with the first family – our family will be praying for you. We wish Yusuf a speedy recovery.”

Senator Ben Murray Bruce, in his twitter handle, @benmurraybruce, said: “I wish Yusuf Buhari a very quick recovery. A young man full of promise. My family and I want President @MBuhari to know that we are with him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Reno Omokri, in @renoomokri: “Today should be a day when all of us Nigerians put our partisanship aside and join with the @MBuhari family to pray for the quick recovery of his son, Yusuf Buhari. There are things that divide us. But a thing such as this should unite us in wishing well to the first family.”

Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation and PDP chieftain, wrote in @realFFK: “I pray that the son of President Buhari recovers quickly and I wish him well. I also pray for all those Nigerians whose loved ones were either murdered, met with an untimely death or tragedy over Christmas. May God grant us all peace and good health as we enter the new year.”
