12-year-old girl crushed to death in Ondo

A 12-year-old girl, Anuoluwapo Oguneso, was on Thursday afternoon crushed to death by a lorry in Okitipupa in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident which happened along the hospital road in the town occurred when the young girl tried to cross the road but ran into the lorry conveying sand from Ode Ayeka.

According to an eyewitness who explained that the little girl’s view was blocked by some motorcycles parked on the side of the road which prevented her from seeing the lorry.

The girl was said to have died instantly before help could reach her.

The driver of the vehicle, Akinwole Olawole, ran away from the scene of the incident.

Olawole who escaped to the nearest police station, reported the incident while the security operatives visited the scene of the incident.

The remains of the young girl was deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Okitipupa while the vehicle was tolled to the station.

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph, described the incident as unfortunate while he said the command had commenced an investigation into the matter.

He said the driver reported the incident at the station and he had since been arrested and interrogated.

Joseph, however, said the corpse of the girl had been deposited at the mortuary.
