The Oyo Assembly,
on Tuesday, approved Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s request that 54 Caretaker Chairmen, be in office for four more months, while Chairmen are now to be appointed in six local government areas and seven local council development areas that were previously under contention cum litigation.
Oriire North LCDA however remains without Chairmanship nomination.
Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo explained that the extension was to prevent a vacuum in local government system pending the expect conduct of local government election, while new appointments were being made consequent upon the vacation of the court case concerning some local government areas and local council development areas.
Going by the extension, the Chairmen are to be in office till March 7, 2018.
Those newly appointed include: Akeem Aransi (Lagelu West LCDA); Adediran Asifu (Irepo LG); Remi Adeniyi (Afijio LG); Okeniyi Gbolagade (Atiba LG); Oladeji Tajudeen (Oyo West); Odekanmi Olayinka (Oriire LG); Akano Nathaniel (Asabari LCDA); Tunde Ojo (Afijio West).

It is believed that the Chairmen will, this time, serve purposes to include stabilising their local government areas and do necessary ground work for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be successful in next year’s local government election in the state.
Tuesday’s plenary also saw the Assembly summon Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela and other officials of the ministry, food vendors, aggregators and other implementers of the programme owing to observed anomalies in the federal government’s school feeding programme in the state.
Honourable Oseni Abdulganiyu of Irepo/Olorunsogo, in his motion, had pointed to alleged halving of the money by the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, before it is sent to individual food vendors.
Furthermore, Oseni’s motion noted that the Federal government’s idea of homegrown feeding by individual local governments was defeated such that food items such as bread, meat and eggs were supplied directly from Ibadan, the state capital, to the food vendors in the various local government areas and money withdrawn from the vendors’ accounts.
This, he noted, resulted in items supplied by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, getting almost spoilt before getting to food vendors and the vendors were compelled to accept the items because the money had already been withdrawn from their accounts.
Olowofela and other personalities invited are billed to appear at next Thursday’s plenary.
Meanwhile, South West Zonal Director and other officials of National Population Commission (NPC) have also been invited by the Assembly to address challenges being encountered in the ongoing delineation of enumeration area by the commission.
Honourable Gbenga Oyekola of Atiba constituency brought up the issue owing to observed lackadaisical attitude of the people of the state towards the exercise.
In view of several accidents in Moniya road, Ibadan, Honourable Joshua Oyebamiji has urged the executive arm to intensify rehabilitation works in the Moniya-Iseyin road.
Among other measures to prevent recurrence of accidents, Oyebamiji who represents Akinyele 1 constituency, also called on Akinyele local government to relocate street traders, motorcyclists, tricyclists and provide a more spacious motor park for commercial vehicles.
