11-year-old Edo kidnap victim regains freedom, reunites with parents

Published by

Edo State Police Command on Friday, at about 09 45am, rescued an 11-year old boy named Onose Friday Umasabor, who was kidnapped in his parents’ bedroom on July 19, in Ososo, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.

The Command, in a press statement endorsed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Kontongs Bello, said that the rescue of the minor was carried out through its Ososo Divisional Headquarters, which “received a report of the abduction of the 11-year-old boy at Ososo in Akoko Edo L.G.A of Edo State on 19th July 2021 at about 0130hrs. On receipt of the information, the CP Edo State Police Command CP Philip Aliyu Ogbadu immediately drafted operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-crime unit of the command, led by its ever-ready commander SP Richard Balogun whom through pain-staking/high-tech tracking and intelligence-led operations, followed the hoodlums to their hide-out in Uneme Erunu/Okpella area of Akoko Edo LGA of Edo State.

“Upon sighting the operatives, the abductors engaged them in a gun duel but they were overwhelmed by the superior firepower from the police which caused them to abandon the victim unhurt. An operational motorcycle without registration number and a Tecno Android phone was recovered after the abductors fled into the bush with various degrees of gun injuries.”

The PPRO disclosed that bush combing was on with the aim of arresting the hoodlums, while investigation was still ongoing to unravel the true identity of those behind the abduction of the boy.

“In the light of this, the Command wishes to reiterate its commitment to its core mandate of protecting lives and property and to also warn criminal elements that Edo State Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police CP Phillip Aliyu Ogbadu can never be a safe haven for criminals and their activities,” the statement reiterated.

The command warned criminals to relocate from the state or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

“The CP also enjoins all law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful business as the command will not leave any stone unturned in its mandate to ensure the safety of lives and property,” it assured.
