IN an effort to reduce unemployment and make them employers of labour to boost their economic status, the Federal College of Horticulture Dadin-Kowa in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe state has commenced the training of 100 unemployed graduates from the South-Eastern region of Nigeria in poultry production.
While flagging off the training exercise at the College on Tuesday, the Provost, Professor Fatima Sawa said that the programme was a Federal Government initiative through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
She explained further that the purpose of the training is to empower unemployed youths and women and make them self reliant and employers of labour in the future, which in turn will ensure food security in the country.
Fatima Sawa implored the participants to bear with the situation they find themselves at the College and let their determination and interest overrule their comfort because according to her, after the training, each participant would be given a starter pack to start his or her business venture.

She also said that in 2019, the College has lined up 27 training to be conducted, pointing out that so far this was the 8th batch while the subsequent training would be on Post-harvest processing, Orchird, Fisheries among other areas.
She further commended the Federal Government for such initiative and added that it will go a long way in reducing social vices in the society especially among unemployed people.
In his speech, Mr Steven Umr, Consultant from Houge Logistic Limited Port Harcourt who will conduct the training said that the training will last for four days and the following topics, Poultry Management, Poultry Disease, Packaging and Marketing and Agric Ecology would be treated.
He urged the participants to be attentive and learn so that they will go back to where they came from with the knowledge of Poultry production.
In his address, CSP. Umar Yidaku who is the 2ic of the Area commander of Dadin/kowa Area Command of the State Police Command assured the participants to feel at home assuring them that Gombe state is home for all and their security is guaranteed.
