GOVERNOR Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has threatened that any student found guilty of involvement in cultism or related offences risked 10-year jail term, fine and rustication.
Speaking at the 23rd combined convocation of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, on Saturday, the governor said that his administration would not tolerate cultism and related activities within and outside academic institutions.
Consequently, Governor Ahmed charged parents, guardians and other members of society to keep an eye on their children and wards and report unusual behaviour or movement to security agencies for investigation.
The governor also reemphasised that education remains a priority for his administration in line with recognition of functional educational as a key ingredient for development and growth.
“We will continue to create an enabling environment for learning and support educational institutions across the state,” he stated.
The event witnessed presentation of fellowship awards of the polytechnic to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN, and Alhaji Kamaldeen Yusuf for their contributions to the polytechnic.
Also speaking, the rector of the polytechnic, Alhaji Masud Elelu, charged the over 49,000 graduands of the institution to use the practical training and entrepreneurial skills acquired during their academic career to be self employed and job providers rather than job seekers.
