Background

Princess Khadijah was born into the royal Elegbede family of Yewa and Egba’Ake in Ogun State. She began her education at St. Andrews, Ibara, where she was born.

Her entrepreneurial journey began at the young age of 10 under the guidance of her sister, whom she joined in 1945.

By 1958, she had become a dealer for prominent companies such as John Holt, UAC, CFAO, and GBO.

Her Nickname

She earned the nickname “Cash Madam” from the legendary Ebenezer Obey, who praised her in his hit song Board Members in the 1970s. Similarly, Yusufu Olatunji, also known as Baba Legba, celebrated her in one of his records.

She held several prestigious titles, including, Iya Suna of Egbaland, Iya Oba of Joga Orile, Iya Oba of Ota Awori, Iya Egbe Adinni of Ayetoro

Princess Khadijah passed away at the age of 89 on January 5, 2025.

Burial

She was laid to rest on January 6, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites at her residence in the Abeokuta Government Residential Area of Ogun State.

Children

She was a devoted mother to many children, including Dr. Adebayo Adebowale, who announced her passing on behalf of the family and Mr. AbdulRahman Odunowo, co-founder of Radio Now 95.3FM in Lagos.

She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
