One person was on Wednesday stabbed to death and five others injured as factions of hoodlums clashed in the Oworonsoki area of Lagos State.
The hoodlums were clashing over a bribe money, which was given to them by a driver of an articulated vehicle, who had gone to deliver granite in the area.
The incident forced residents of Ekore LSK and Ferry area of Oworonsoki to hurriedly close down commercial activities as the hoodlums reportedly shot sporadically
A resident of Ekore area, who witnessed the clash, Tomiwa told the Metro that “a trailer driver gave them #10 000 to share among one another.”
He added that “what actually happened was that two of them attempted to run away with the money and a clash ensued resulting in one of them being stabbed.”
The injured member of the hoodlum reportedly went to Ferry area and mobilized his gang members, who returned to the scene of the clash with more arms and ammunition.
An unidentified young man was shot in the reprisal attack and he was rushed to Daniel Hospital, where he was treated.
Residents of Oworonsoki blamed the latest clash on the rivalry between the traditional leadership in the town.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed the incident to the Metro.
The Lagos police image maker said “some hoodlums clashed within LSK and Ferry areas of oworonshoki Lagos state.”
He added that “three suspects were arrested while one injured person was taken to the hospital who later died.”
“The situation has been brought under control and combined patrol teams have increased their visibility in the area to effect more arrest in anticipation of reprisal attack.” he added
The Lagos police spokesperson also claimed that “however, the situation and area is under control.”
