ABOUT 45 serving and ex- presidents across the globe are expected to witness the official grand opening of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, on Saturday.
The library which is the first in the continent of Africa is facilitated by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who administered the country as a two-time democratically elected president from 1999 to 2007.
The commissioning is one of the programmes highlighted for the celebration of the 80th birthday of a man described to be the architect of modern day Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Dayo Adeneye, while featuring on a local television programme on the activities marking Obasanjo’s birthday.
Adeneye who is the chairman, Publicity and Media sub-committee said that the contribution of the former Head of State to humanity could not be quantified.
Adeneye said, “Obasanjo is a worthy and exemplary leader, who, most leaders in the world, is emulating his leadership skills.
“Let me say that no fewer than 45 serving and past presidents and 700 important personalities in the world would attend the grand opening of OOPL this weekend.
“The library is first of its kind in Nigeria and has over 42 million knowledgeable materials, books and documents, including Obasanjo’s primary school uniform, shoe, military cap and uniform, first car (Volkswagen) and other personal things.”
The commissioner said further that the former president is still very much relevant to the political development of the country.
