Kano member, Hon. Garba Durbunde

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, ‎Hon Abdulrasaq Namdas on Friday said that there was no ransom paid for the release of Kano member, Hon. Garba Durbunde, who was kidnapped on Wednesday on his way to Kano State.

This is coming just as Hon. Namdas said that a special session would be held on June 9th to commemorate the second year anniversary of the 8th Assembly.

Reports had it that a whopping sum of N1billion ransom was paid by the leadership of the House of Representatives before the lawmaker was released by his abductors.

‎However, answering questions from newsmen yesterday over the development, Hon. Namdas said that the kidnapped lawmaker was not the target of his abductors.

When asked if ransom was paid, Hon. Namdas said, “It is not true, we didn’t pay any ransom, when his abductors realised that he was a wrong target, there was no need for demanding for any ransom, they have no option than to release him immediately”.

On the second anniversary of the House, ‎he said that a number of programmes have been lined up for the celebration which had been slated for June 9th when the House would hold a special session to mark the occasion.

According to him, the occasion would be graced by the President, former Speakers of the House, as well as former members who are serving as governors and ministers.
