Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has stated that Nigerians have come to accept the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as one of the major national policies that unify Nigerian youths.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members posted to the state on Friday, Ajimobi lauded the Corps for bringing the youth together to interact, socialise and develop the states of the country.
Ajimobi who was represented by his deputy, Moses Adeyemo said NYSC still possesses the potential to further develop the county.
He also noted that the increasing unemployment in the country has made the nation realise the need to evolve Nigeria’s industrial and agricultural technologies.

“One can boldly declare that NYSC stands out today as one major national policy that has been accepted as an invaluable instrument for bringing the youth together to interact, socialise and participate in development service to communities where they do not originally belong.
“I also want to admit that the scheme still possesses the potential to positively contribute to the development of the nation.
“Do not get discouraged by the high rate of unemployment but rather strive to be like great men and women who are putting the nation in great perspective.
“The situation we found ourselves has compelled us more than ever before to realise the need to evolve our own industrial and agricultural technologies.
“It is therefore important that we become a nation of producers rather than consumers of foreign goods. The nations must develop a strong agricultural base and provide enabling environment for industries to thrive,” he added.
Speaking earlier, Oyo State Coordinator of NYSC, Eniola Ambekemo urged the 2,346 corps members posted to the state to learn skills provided through the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
Ambekemo noted that the “era of white collar jobs is gone and this has given way to self-development and empowerment programmes.
“I, therefore, enjoin to key into the system and strive to become job creators and not job seekers both now and in the nearest future.”
Meanwhile, House of Representatives member-elect for Iseyin/ltesiwaju/ Kajola/lwajowa federal constituency, Shina Peller donated a one unit female hostel to the state NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.
Peller said the new hostel will help assuage the accommodation challenges experienced by previous batches of corps members during their orientation exercises.
Peller, while welcoming the corps members to the states, asked the people of the state to accommodate and assist corps members to further develop the pacesetter state.
