A heart attack occurs when an artery that sends blood and oxygen to the heart is blocked. Fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits build up over time, forming plaques in the heart’s arteries. If a plaque ruptures, a blood clot can form. The clot can block arteries, causing a heart attack.
In addition, other medical conditions, such as high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure or preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy) can also lead to heart attacks. An unhealthy diet, including eating too many foods high in saturated fat or sodium including lack of regular physical activity can trigger heart attacks.
To avoid the ailment, lifestyle habits, such as: more physical activity, keeping to a healthy weight, giving up smoking, reduction of your alcohol consumption, keeping your blood pressure under control, keeping your diabetes under control as well as regular use of any prescribed medicine can keep away heart attacks.
