The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced last week, will continue until August 2026.

Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, disclosed this in a statement on Monday while providing an update on the exercise.

Olumekun reported that a total of 1,379,342 people participated in the online pre-registration nationwide within one week. He provided a detailed breakdown by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status.

“The breakdown of the online pre-registrations shows that 661,846 (47.96%) are male and 717,856 (52.04%) are female. Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 constitute the majority of the registrants, with 860,286 (62.37%). In terms of occupation, 374,534 (27.15%) are students, while the figure for persons with disabilities is 27,089 (1.96%),” Olumekun said.

Further checks revealed that Osun State recorded the highest number of registrations with 393,269 (28.51%), followed by Lagos State with 222,205 (16.11%), while Ogun State ranked third with 132,823 (9.63%). The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also posted a strong turnout with 107,682 (7.81%).

Three states in the South East—Ebonyi, Imo, and Enugu—were at the bottom of the table with 261, 481, and 484 registrations, respectively.

The statement further disclosed that physical registration commenced on Monday at INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide.

“This will allow those who prefer the in-person option to register at the centres, as well as those who completed online pre-registration to finalize their registration,” the statement added.
