Youths and other stakeholders in the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking him to reward the loyalty of their leaders and party chieftains.
In a letter made available to newsmen entitled “Passionate Plea for Our Dear President to Reward Loyalty, Hardwork, Dedication, and Commitment in APC Taraba State”, the youths said it was a call to get the president’s “attention to resolve the seeming years of broken promises to us in Taraba State and especially the younger elements” in the party in the state.
The letter was signed by Alhaji Bashir Bakari, APC Chairman, Jalingo LGA, on behalf of LGA Party Chairmen in the state and Chairman of the Forum of 16 LG Chairmen (ALGON), Taraba State; Belo Muhammad Hassan on behalf of representatives of ward chairmen; Auwal Abdullahi Ade of Jarma Volunteer Movement for Tinubu and Shettima on behalf of volunteer groups and organisations; Patience Bitrus on behalf of APC Youths and Women Groups in the state; and Alhaji Danladi Umar Jalla for representatives of the APC Elders Forum.
In the letter, they said: “Our prayer is that Mohammed Bello Mustapha, fondly known as MB Mustapha, whose hard work, loyalty, dedication, commitment, and sacrifices cannot be disputed by any member of the APC family both at the state and national levels, who is properly informed of the undercurrents within the party during the last elections, ought to be recognised and compensated adequately, to serve as encouragement to the millions of genuine followers of our great party who are disenchanted by the current happenings within the party at the national level.”
According to them, rewarding MB Mustapha would restore hope and confidence in the APC “and the capacity of Mr President to identify talents and reward hard work, as we have already been made to believe judging from Mr President’s antecedents as Governor of Lagos State.”
The groups argued that Mustapha had sacrificed for others for the growth of APC in the state and the region, saying, “We draw your attention to the remarkable trait of sacrificing for others in the larger interest of the party as exemplified by the contributions of our brother and compatriot who is a political activist like yourself, one-time President of the famous Ahmadu Bello University Students’ Union Government and National Convention Chairman National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), MB Mustapha.”
Taraba APC youths said “MB Mustapha served as Secretary and Legal Adviser of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in Taraba State during the last presidential election.
And it is on record that for the first time in the history of presidential elections since 1999, a Situation Room was set up (fully equipped with modern IT Gadgets) for the presidential election in Taraba State by the immediate past minister of transportation, Muazu Jaji Sambo, who doubles as the APC/PCC Coordinator. Sambo also funded the campaign from the beginning to the end.
“The situation room was manned, handled, and successfully coordinated by Mustapha, which was one of the reasons why the APC in Taraba was able to surpass all expectations and score about 30% of the total votes cast in the presidential polls.
It may interest you to note that this feat is no mean feat given the fact that pundits have already given up hope on the possible performance of the APC in the state; moreover, some of the principal actors in the Taraba APC openly campaigned and voted against the APC.
“It is, therefore, safe to say that the engine room of the APC during the presidential elections was Barrister MB Mustapha.”
They said they were “shocked that people who have longer legs have outrun him to Abuja to receive a reward for what they actually did not work for.
“Rubbing this obvious short-change of a young man on us collectively totally kills the morale of the younger elements in our political party to work assiduously for future successes.”
While recognising that Mr President reserves the right under Section 147 to choose Ministers from the 36 states of the federation, they regretted that some usurpers had allegedly shortchanged “a hardworking individual.”
They expressed the belief that President Tinubu “can right the wrongs of the years past just as you have, for the first time since 1999, considered, recognised, and included the Abuja aborigines into your cabinet.”
They contended that Mustapha was “prevailed upon by party leaders and elders to step down from contesting the post of National Secretary of the APC and was also prevailed upon once again by the North-East leaders of the party to step down for Comrade Mustapha Salihu to occupy the office of the National Vice Chairman North-East in 2017 after the exit of Mr Babachir David Lawal.
