Say no to body shaming

RECENTLY, while surfing the Internet, I came across a video, where a lady who could not fit into a particular group, got the confidence to fulfill her wish by getting a ‘firm stomach’ after wearing a particular belt for a particular period of time. This is because only the ‘ideal body’ matters and all other things like compassion, truthfulness, and confidence are secondary. At least, this is what the present media is disseminating, and if you do not qualify for these ideas of beauty, there are a lot of people ready to remind you of your ‘imperfections’.

We live in a world where people find pleasure in making a hobby out of criticising people’s physical appearances. What is the ideal body type, anyway?

Men worry about not having moustache, or not having muscles in ‘the right places’ and women worry about being too skinny or too fat. There is no end to this probing.  However, those who involve in body shaming do not realise that their insensitivity can have psychological impact on others. It can mess up their mental and physical state thereby causing their lack of confidence. Anxiety and depression may set in, and this can lead to them committing suicide, yielding to the pressures of ‘ideal beauty’.

Rather than focusing on the insolence, take time to love and cherish your body. Do not let anyone come between you and your body. You should be confident in yourself by focusing on what you’re good at. Everyone has insecurities, even the ones that think their bodies are perfect. It’s okay to have your body type, do not live your life to please others.
