New NIMN president unveils repositioning plans

BARELY two months after being given the mandate to lead the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) for the next two years, the institute’s new president,  Mr. Idorenyen Enang has said one of his priorities is to enhance the equity of the marketing institute,  to give it a competitive edge.

Speaking with Brands & Marketing at a retreat organized for the institute’s council members and some chapter chairmen,  in Lagos, recently, Enang  stated that one of the ways he intends to achieve that is to  strengthen the institute’s  chapters, and also have interest groups in those chapters,  to give them run more effectively.

This, he added, would be done by streamlining the number of chapters,  and ensuring that only one chapter oversees the activities of members in a particular state.

“We have 36 states plus the federal capital. A  state will have only one chapter, and every  other thing will be built around interest groups, because we have marketers in all spheres,” he stated.

The NIMN boss also promised to enhance the membership base of the institute, by making  its activities and events attractive to prospective marketers, especially those in the, hitherto, unexplored sectors of the economy.

He assured that the issue of quackery in the practice would soon be a thing of the past; since the council would enhance the marketing ecosystem and liase with employers of labour on the need to have their marketers certified by the institute.

Enang explained that the two-day retreat, for the institute’s council members, and chapter chairmen, had become imperative  to enable every member of the council be on the same page; since it afforded him the opportunity to share his vision  on how he intends to drive the institute with critical stakeholders.
