I am constipated

Published by

I have been troubled by constipation for the last two years to the extent that I have been taking laxatives twice a week before I can visit the toilet. On one occasion, things got so bad that I had to use my fingers to remove a very hard piece of stool from my anus. Your help is urgently needed.

To manage chronic constipation, increase fiber intake and drink plenty of water, as this adds bulk and softens stool. Incorporate regular physical activity and practice good bowel habits by not ignoring the urge to go and by trying to have a bowel movement at a consistent time each day, like after breakfast. If these lifestyle changes are not enough, a doctor may suggest other options, such as reviewing medications or trying specific over the counter or prescription treatments.
