Gov Umahi blames escalation of South East insecurity on imported criminals

Escalation of insecurity in the Southeast region has been largely blamed on the delayed action by the governments because ill-informed members of the public, were out in criticism of the government’s action at the early stage of the unrest.

Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi said this on Channels Television while describing the insecurity in the Southeast, as one, hijacked by criminals.

He said security reports available to the governors showed more criminality than agitation because when accosted to explain the perceived bitterness against the system, hardly, can anyone so accosted, provide a reason for the bitterness against the system.

In the interview, monitored by our correspondent, Umahi said most of the insecurity being perpetrated in the Southeast, was the handiwork of imported criminals which would be dealt with soon.

He noted that the agitation was hijacked by criminals who are projecting their devious act of killing people and engaged in all kinds of criminality.

Umahi said: “The matter has gone beyond you, the matter has been hijacked and you pave the way, for it to be hijacked, every criminal is now claiming to be IPOB they are the ones doing the killings. Even when you say the sit-at-home is suspended, has it been suspended? No!

“If you say people are not complying because of fear, are there not killings in the days of sit-at-home are there not killings in this days because of sit-at-home? There were killings and burning of vehicles.

“This shows that IPOB is not in charge, it is not in command anymore but just criminality which we are going to deal with.

“I agree with the governor of Imo state that some people are imported to do the killing.

“In my state, we do not have political killings even though the opposition would say otherwise.

“From my security point of view, what we have had is killing ourselves which God has helped to stop,” the governor submitted.
