GUBERNATORIAL candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has promised teeming youths of the state that he will appoint one of them, clearly an under 30 years of age as the commissioner for youth, sports, if elected as the governor of the state in the governorship election coming up on March 2.
Makinde made this known on Sunday afternoon during a question and answer session organised in his honour by the Oyo state wing of PDP held at Jogor event centre, in Ibadan.
The gubernatorial candidate was accompanied to the event by his wife, Tamunominini, the Director of Protocol, 2019 Seyi Makinde Campaign team, Honourable Adejumo, Director of Communication and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, expressed his appreciation at the large turnout of the youths who attended the programme.
In his face-to-face interaction, Makinde presented his manifesto as contained in his manifesto tagged ‘roadmap for accelerated development 2019-2023’, and thereafter stood for over 35 minutes to answer various questions posed at him by the youths.
On his plan and percentage to allocate to youths in the state, he said “anything that has to do with youth, in fact, our Commissioner for Youth and sports, will be somebody below the age of 30. This will also reflect in the appointment of Special Adviser on youth as well.”

He then promised that his administration will provide an atmosphere that will spur the youths to exhibit potentials that would make them be at par with their colleagues across the globe in creating jobs and wealth through their intellects, which he says is the best way to reduce unemployment in the state.
Makinde then charged the youths to use the zeal they mobilised themselves for the interaction to vote and mobilise others to vote for all PDP candidates beginning from its presidential candidate; Alhaji Atiku Abubakar/ Peter Obi and other National Assembly candidates in the state on February 16 and on March 2 for himself as the governor of the state and 32 state House of Assembly candidates.
In his address, Oyo state PDP Youth leader, Asiwaju Adekola Adeoye corroborated Makinde’s call by calling on the youths “to work like beavers from your fingers to your bone to overthrow APC government come through elections of February 16 and March 2.”
Adeoye added that “this will be workable if we mobilize the teeming youths of Oyo state to support the PDP and its candidates in the coming elections. It is not only evangelizing to them to vote for our party; it is also about giving them the rational reasons why the APC must go.”
He then led the youth on behalf of the youths in the state to endorse Makinde as the next governor that will take the mantle of the leadership from the incumbent governor of the state.
He also called on the youths in the state to join the road walk organised by the youth arm of the party on Sunday, February 9 to mobilize support for Makinde, beginning from Omi Tuntun House, Iwo-road ending at the state party secretariat, Molete, Ibadan.
