Yoruba movies gaining more recognition now – Filmmaker, Luqman Adewale

Prolific Yoruba filmmaker cum actor, Luqman Yekeen Adewale, popular as Luyek in a recent interview with journalists said that the Yoruba movies are gaining better ground than before, both locally and internationally.

Luyek, credited with several movie productions like ‘Omo Iku’, ‘My Pride’, ‘Jericho’, ‘Orisa’, ‘Odolaye’, ‘Yara Ikeyin’, ‘Doctor Jide’ and many others reiterated his belief in the industry while saying that “I believe Yoruba movies will break more ground. All we need to do is to improve technically.”

He added that “Innovation is taking over; production-wise, we must continue to upgrade and keep improving to achieve the goal.

“The truth is that you are as good as your last job and as filmmakers, we must keep striving for perfection.”

Speaking on his latest production, which is to be distributed by Corporate Pictures nationwide, Adewale said, “my latest movie is titled ‘Ajoke Alagbo’ and I can’t wait for people to watch it. Asides from the fact that it is a comedy film, it tackles issues like health challenges, something that is a universal challenge.”

A versatile actor, Adewale further revealed other coming works in his repertoire, including ‘Asiri Ajinigbe’, ‘Obsession’ and ‘The Murderer’s Case’. He stated that even though he is a filmmaker, it is easy for him to switch hats once he hears ‘Action!’
