American actress, Jada Pinkett Smith, has revealed that she and her American actor and rapper husband, Will Smith, have been living completely separate lives since 2016.
Pinkett disclosed this in a clip from her forthcoming NBC News primetime special with Hoda Kotb, where she discussed the status of her relationship with Will Smith.
According to her, the couple previously decided not to go public with the news of their separation because they were not ready yet.
She noted that although they are currently not ready to take the legal step to be officially divorced, they have been living separately for 7 years.
However, she did note that the separation was essentially a “divorce” as she and Smith are no longer romantically together.
When asked what led to the separation of the couple, Pinkett said, “that’s a lot of things.”
Kotb asked, “In 2016, you and Will decided that you were going to live completely separate lives?” Pinkett answered in affirmation, saying, ‘yes’.
Will Smith and Pinkett Smith got married in 1997 and have two children, Jaden and Willow Smith, together.
