Why we’re building mobile barracks in Barkin Ladi — HYPPADEC

The Managing Director of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has stated that the ongoing construction of a Mobile Barracks in the Gashish community in Barkin Ladi local government of Plateau State is aimed at providing security for the inhabitants of the area based on demand.

During an inspection tour of the project in Gashish on Wednesday, the Managing Director disclosed to newsmen that a needs assessment conducted by the commission indicated that the communities in the area were vulnerable to insurgency. He emphasized that the demand for enhanced security from the communities was genuine and necessary.

“We are here to supervise the ongoing construction of the mobile barracks brought here to address security challenges in this area. HYPPADEC recognizes that without peace and security, any economic development efforts for the people of this community would be futile,” he declared.

Yelwa explained that the people in the community and its environs have experienced invasions by armed gunmen in recent times. Consequently, the community, through their state government, requested that the federal government establish a security presence closer to them to protect them from external threats.

Having inspected the site, Yelwa stated that the construction of the mobile barracks was about 70% complete. He expressed hope that upon completion, security personnel would be deployed to the location, effectively addressing the security challenges faced by the community.

The mobile barracks have the capacity to accommodate at least 150 security personnel, and the construction is progressing according to specifications. Yelwa expressed confidence in the engineers overseeing the project, noting that the focus of his management was on ensuring the delivery of a high-quality job to meet the project’s objectives.

“We aim to complete this project by 31 December of this year because any delays are dangerous. This project is about the safety of lives and properties, so we will not tolerate any delays. Our goal is to complete the project and hand it over to the state government as soon as possible,” he added.
