An upcoming artiste, Emmanuel Lawal a.k.a El Manny has said that the Nigerian music industry is a force to reckon with only because the likes Tuface, D’banj, Wizkid and Davido have successfully put the Nigerian music on the map.

El manny, who spoke to Friday Treat recently,  said that although the music industry is being drawn back by piracy, people have now resorted to buying songs online. He added that a lot of not-so-talented people get signed these days and hence admonished that the stakeholders in the entertainment industry focus on real talent and real music.

Sharing his experience in music, he said that his stage name was coined from the first two initials of his name and surname, adding that growing up with music was quite an experience.

“I grew up listening to P Square, Chris Brown, Tuface, and other oldies, which made me curious as to how people write these songs and sing it too. I started out playing drums, keyboard and singing.

“I was born to do music. I have recorded numerous songs but have three out officially, including the recently released ‘Badder than you’ and ‘Turn me on’ which has a video on Youtube.

El manny said that dance hall and Afro pop are his genres with a blend of R and B, adding that in  the Nigerian music of today, you never know which would sell because the music industry is changing and new sounds are coming up. Lawal explicated that the key was just keep writing and working hard.

He stated, “Tubaba, Wizkid, Davido, Kiss Daniel, Reekado Banks and their likes artistes are people I long for because of the ways they express dexterity in the songs they sing. If I had a chance to feature anyone. It will definitely be all of these celebrities I have mentioned above because they all inspire me.. Lyrically and song choices and how their music connect to their fans”. El Manny expressed positive belief in his kind of music, saying that it will sell more in the Industry.
