Why Dangote refinery must be protected — Kwankwaso

Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Wednesday, reacted to the disagreement between the Dangote Refinery management and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The Nigerian regulatory authorities, through its Chief Executive Officer, Farouk Ahmed, had claimed that petroleum products from Dangote Refinery are sub-standard. However, the management of the refinery has since refuted the claim.

But the Kwankwaso while reacting via his X handle,  blamed the saga, which he described as ‘unnecessary fuss’ on vested interests, saying it could damage investor confidence in the Nigerian economy.

According to him, protecting such investment would maintain investor confidence in the Nigeria’s economy.

“The creation of unnecessary fuss around its integrity by some vested interests is very unfortunate, and it stands to undo all the years of hard work to maintain the fragile investor confidence in our economy,” he said.

Continuing, he explained that Dangote refinery is a crucial asset for the nation’s energy needs and economic stability, and must be protected from all forms of threat that could undermine its operations.

This 650,000 bpd refinery is essential for our energy needs and economic stability, and it must be protected from all forms of threat.

“I was privileged to visit the magnificent Dangote Refinery, and I was marvelled by the sheer commitment that went into the quality of its establishment,

“It’s time for us to rally around this National Asset to ensure that the monumental project does not fail. It cannot fail, and the Nigerian government must understand this by demonstrating fairness and confidence in both domestic and foreign critical investments,” he stated.

Tribune Online reports that the PDP AND Labour Party presidential candidates in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi respectively, had expressed worry over the controversy between Dangote Industries and some government agencies.
