Ijebu-Ode came alive recently, as over 1,000 youths, technology professionals, educators and policymakers gathered for Tech Horizon, the largest technology event ever hosted in the city.

Organised by Tech Talent Academy, the summit focused on equipping young Nigerians with digital skills, fostering innovation and preparing the workforce for a technology-driven economy. Participants included students from more than 30 secondary schools, startups, government representatives and industry leaders.

In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology of Ogun State, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, emphasised the urgent need to align education with emerging digital competencies to enhance employability and national development.

A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the Gateway Programme by Co-Creation Hub, which aims to empower over 500 young people with in-demand digital skills and access to gig-work opportunities. In addition, the Adenrele Lekan-Salami Foundation awarded scholarships to 20 students to support their training in technology-related fields.

Panel discussions addressed digital entrepreneurship, remote work and career growth, while startups showcased innovations in fintech, edtech, logistics and payment solutions. The event also featured a female-dominated idea pitch contest, highlighting the growing influence of women in Nigeria’s technology space.

Organisers described Tech Horizon as a landmark initiative aimed at positioning Ijebu-Ode as an emerging hub for digital talent and innovation.
