Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Tuesday that it has not commenced registration of voters in any part of the Lagos State, saying it had come to its notice that some unscrupulous elements had been engaging in illegal registration of voters in Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.
INEC office in Lagos said this in a statement issued by its Head of Publicity and Protocol, Mr Femi Akinbiyi, saying, “It has come to the notice of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Lagos State office that some unscrupulous elements in the society have been engaging in illegal registration of voters in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.”
“For avoidance of doubt, the state has not commenced registration of voters in any part of the state,” he added.
Akinbiyi, however, said appropriate notice would be issued to the general public whenever INEC was set for the exercise.
Meanwhile, the commission’s spokesperson said the law enforcement agencies had been informed of this ugly development with a view to apprehending the criminals behind this illegal act.
He urged the general public to kindly furnish the INEC with information regarding any such illegal registration through the following numbers, 09054473490, 08023113868, and 08023169002, or the security agencies for appropriate action.
