We are ready for LG election, APC leaders in Delta declare

Ahead of the July 13 local government election, chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State have urged the electorate in Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West local government areas to vote for chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the party.

The party chairman for Delta South senatorial district, Austin Oribioye, Chief Ayirimi Emami and other members were at Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South-West and Koko town headquarters of Warri North to flag-off the campaign for the forthcoming local government areas election in the state.

Speaking at the rally, Emami said the APC has put all necessary things in place to contest the local government election.

He affirmed that the era of writing results before election was over, stressing that the electorate should be allowed to vote candidates of their choice.

He further said that the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) should conduct free and fair election, adding that people should not be intimidated, assuring that APC candidates will win.

Chief Emami, who expressed satisfaction by the large turnout of the people at the campaign ground, stressed that APC has come to stay.

He noted that no election is small, once there is election, we have to campaign to win, stressing that local government autonomy will give power to INEC to conduct an election for a true winner to emerge.

“Our candidates have the capacity to lead. Election materials should be distributed to all wards and units for the people to vote their choice.

“There should be no rigging of election. My message to the people is to vote for APC candidates for both chairmanship and counsellorship positions,” Emami said.

Speaking on the alleged plot to rig and cause violence in some parts of the state, Chief Emami warned against such a purported move.

“That’s why I am saying all of us must support Mr President for local government autonomy, the national assembly must act fast because if there is local government autonomy all of these plots and plans will stop,” Ayiri said.

On his part, Chief Michael Odeli said that APC has prepared for the election and that free and fair election is the hallmark of democracy.

The APC chairmanship candidate of Warri South West, Chief Bene Mamamu, who promised to give 20 scholarships annually and every ward in the local government area will have a health centre each, urged the electorate to come out and vote.

The APC chairmanship candidate of Warri North, Chief Samuel Omamuli, said that as a grassroots man, he knew the needs of the people and urged DSIEC to make voting materials available to wards and units on time for proper voting to take place.

Addressing the crowd, the APC women leader in Warri South-West, Christabel Egbayinor,  urged the electorate, particularly women, to come out en mass to cast their votes in favour of APC candidates.
