Water supply to be restored soon in Sokoto ― State govt

The Sokoto State Government has assured the people of the state especially residents of Sokoto metropolis of its readiness to restore water supply in the state.

The government expresses appreciation for the understanding of the general public on the water supply shortages being experienced in parts of Sokoto Metropolis, saying the difficulty was caused by two coinciding incidents.

According to a statement signed by the DG media and public affairs to the Governor, Abubakar Shekara, and released to the state working Journalists on Tuesday in Sokoto.

According to Shekara, “The seasonal deflation of the River Rima, the main source of water for our treatment plants, which has been recurring for several decades, every time causing pipe borne water supply shortages in the Sokoto Metropolis.

“Damage to the main electricity transformer that serves our treatment and pumping plants following a power upsurge”

The statement assured the general public that the State Government has sought the release of water from the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, which has commenced since yesterday, Monday.

It further says that the State Governor has also approved the installation of a new transformer for the Water Board plants, which is being carried out.

He assured that the state water Board will continue to supply water to affected areas by water tanks to ease the difficulty faced by consumers.
