RESIDENTS of ancient Warri and its environs are gradually becoming impatient over the total blackout that has pervaded the entire area since Tuesday, February 20.
The development, as gathered and witnessed, has brought about untold hardship to the people in regard to scarcity of potable water and general boredom in commercial activities, especially among frozen foods traders.
A resident at Ginuwa in Warri South Local Government Area identified as Mama Tegiri told Tribune Online on Friday that the situation was becoming unbearable.
Speaking in Warri pidgin, the mother-of-three, said: “we nor sabi wetin dey worry NEPA abi na BEDC una dey call them.
“Since Tuesday wen dem shine the light small, we never see anything since then o. We don suffer die for their hand. Water we no fit pump use.”
“All our things wen we keep for fridge don spoil finish and they never tell us wetin do the light.”
Checks on the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), which office is located at Warri/Sapele revealed that the blackout might be as a result of a major breakdown.
Speaking with a senior staff of BEDC identified as Engr Auta on phone, he noted that the cause of the blackout was the breakdown of the major transformer feeding the entire Warri and environs.
He disclosed that the company had issued a statement to residents of the area through the electronic media in Warri on the cause of the blackout and efforts being made round the clock to restore electricity to Warri and environs.
His disclosure on Thursday to TribuneOnline that electricity would be restored Thursday night has not materialized as residents of the twin town of Warri and Effurun and environs are still groping in darkness.
However, residents of the area are calling on officials of the company to hasten the repairs and restore light and life to the people in no time.
