Speaking after the final collation of the results, the returning officer, Professor Fatima B. Mukhtar, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Dutse, made the pronouncement at the collation centre at exactly 2:54 am on Monday.
According to the results which was declared at the state collation centre at Sultan Abubakar institute of Quranic and general studies, Sokoto, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is leading his closest rival, who is the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), with total votes cast of 489,558 and 486,145 respectively.
The difference between the results declared for both candidates is 3,413 votes which is less than the total number of cancelled votes in the state.
According to the INEC returning officer, “The difference between the two major parties is just 3,413.
“With cancellations in 136 polling units which is equivalent to 75,403 with total registered voters accross 22 Local Governments area of the State.
” In view of this explanation, I cannot declare any winner for this election, I hereby declare this election inconclusive,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his displeasure with the pronouncement of the returning officer.
