UPDATE: Ex-Ogun majority leader, Yinka Mafe, dies after celebrating 46th birthday

The former Majority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyinka Mafe, is dead.

He died few hours after the celebration of his 46th birthday held at in Sagamu, on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the deceased, a trained lawyer, complained of chest pain which likely resulted in his death.

Tribune Online learnt that the lawmaker slumped and died inside his bathroom and that his remains deposited at the morgue.

The lawmaker posted pictures taken during his birthday on his Facebook page before the unfortunate happened at about 11 p.m

Mafe was a two-time member of the Assembly who represented Sagamu State Constituency 1 on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), later defected to Allied People’s Movement (APM) and later returned to APC shortly after the governorship election in March 2019.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, on a social media platform, wrote “so sad and unbelievable. Sleep well.”

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary, Ogun APC Caretaker Committee, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye, the passage of Mafe was a rude shock to the party.

Oladunjoye described the late lawmaker as a vibrant soul, a consummate entrepreneur, a legal practitioner who was known for his outspokenness.

The statement reads: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State received with shock, the sad news of the death of the former Majority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Yinka Mafe.

“Though the circumstances surrounding his death are still sketchy, our party, however, has, indeed, lost a vibrant lawmaker, legal practitioner and consummate entrepreneur, known for his outspokenness, no matter where he finds himself.

“The party recalled that even when others remained in the deflated and defunct Allied People’s Movement (APM), Yinka Mafe took a very bold and courageous step to return to APC.

“While the other defected and defeated members of defunct APM were still shadow-chasing and preoccupied with empty boasts, Mafe, less than a month after the election of Prince Dapo Abiodun, specifically on April 2, 2019, announced his return to APC on the floor of Ogun State House of Assembly.

“While commiserating with the wife, children and the entire members of the family of the deceased, and indeed the people of Sagamu 1 State Constituency, the APC prays that God will give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
