UNFPA lauds FG’s effort to curb maternal, neonatal mortality

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has commended the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for introducing measures to reduce the rate of maternal and Neonatal Mortality in Nigeria.

The commendation was made by the Bauchi State UNFPA Programme Officer in Bauchi State, Deborah Tabara while speaking at the closing of a 5-day implementation design workshop of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (mamii) in Bauchi.

She assured that UNFPA is always ready to support such initiatives in order to promote family health and safe motherhood which are the primary focus of the Agency.

Tabara stated, “I bring you greetings from the Country Office of the UNFPA in Abuja, they’ve been following up on this programme. My colleague is in other state. And I’ve been providing Feedback to them. That’s to show the interest of UNFPA to this Programme.”

“Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (mamii) is in line with UNFPA mandate in ensuring that all pregnancies are wanted, no woman dies giving birth. Every childbirth is safe and all young persons achieve their potentials.”

“It has being five days of Commitments and consistency in the development of these implementation plan and it is hopeful that it will not just be a plan in our laptops, it will translate to the result we hope to see at the end of the day.”

Deborah Tabara stressed that, “I want to reiterate UNFPA’s commitment in ensuring that we see the expected outcome of this programme and UNFPA is committed to working with the Nigerian government, at the federal level, and also at the state level.”

“And it’s been a pleasure working here in Bauchi state, I want to thank the Commissioner, the EC of Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, the PS, Ministry of Health. It’s been a pleasure actually you’ve provided an enabling environment.”

“We’ve thrived and would ensure that we get required funding to support implementation of this programme across different thematic areas. We will see the results at the end of the day.”
