Ebonyi State government has made plans to come first in education in Nigeria as it has mapped out 7.5billion naira in the next ten months to renovate and equip all public schools.
Governor Dave Umahi who maintained that the project will make a tremendous difference said he will guide the expenditure with the executive council members.
Governor Umahi stated this on Wednesday while swearing-in chairman and members of University Basic Education Board at the state Executive council.
He, however, charged the chairman to divide the boards into zones for effective monitoring and supervision of academic activities and projects of UBEB. He also urged them to embark on biometric education as he plans to deploy e-learning facilities.

“We want to come first in education in this country within the next year. We are set to spend about 7.5 billion Naira in the next ten months in the renovation and equipping of our schools. The project is going to make a tremendous difference because I will guide the expenditure with my very eyes and executive council members.
Umahi said, “I want to welcome old members and also want to welcome new members. Let me say to the old members that I was not too much satisfied with their performance. I am not sure they understood their work. I expect the chairman to divide the board into zones for effective monitoring of academic activities and the supervision of the projects of UBEB.
“Let all the people employed in our education system go after the biometric I saw on television employed in Edo State. With it, you can stay in your office and know how many teachers and students that are in school. I also want to deploy e-learning whereby there will be few teachers.
“We want to classify three schools and classify them as special schools. They are government secondary school, Afikpo, the Presco and then, the Ezza high school. So, under the new UBEB project, we are going to give lavishly some projects to them. The idea is that students and teachers will now leave in that school. They will be light 24 hours. It will be an exemplary institution,” he stated.
