The police on Thursday arraigned two brothers who allegedly beat up and stabbed their neighbour with a broken bottle in a Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State.
The police charged Bamini,20, and Ahmadu Umaru, 25, who both reside in Kugeri Village, Kaduna, with two counts of conspiracy and assault.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 1, in Kujeri village.
Leo said that the defendants attacked the complainant, Mr Isah Abdullahi, with sticks and stabbed him with a broken bottle.
The prosecutor said the fight started over an argument which ensued between the complainant and the defendants’ father Alhaji Umaru.
He said the complainant reported the case to the police and the defendants were arrested.
The offences contravened Sections 59 and 223 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 223 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
Magistrate Umar Ibrahim admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each, in like sum.
Ibrahim adjourned the case until March 16 for hearing.
