The Arewa Think Tank has described the commendation by President Donald Trump on the current fight against terrorism as a mark of progress.
In a statement issued by the convener of the Northern group, Muhammad Alhàji Yakubu, and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday, they welcomed the recent commendation by United States President Donald Trump on President Tinubu’s fight against terrorism.
It said the endorsement reflects growing international confidence in Nigeria’s security efforts under the current administration.
He added, “Arewa Think Tank has been vindicated. We are happy that what Donald Trump said has vindicated us because long time ago, Arewa Think Tank has not shaken, has not wavered in its confidence and trust in the ability and capacity of Mr. President to take Nigerians to the promised land.”
Reacting to demands by the opposition for the president’s resignation, Yakubu said ongoing investigations by the National Assembly and the judicial process should be allowed to run their full course before conclusions are reached.
“The opposition is saying Tinubu should step down. I think it’s premature. The case is in court, while the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives, is investigating the matter. Why don’t we wait for the outcome? I think our quest for power should not blind our sense of reasoning and objectivity,” Yakubu said.
According to him, Nigerians should allow the relevant institutions to establish the facts instead of making political pronouncements that could prejudice ongoing investigations.

Yakubu’s remarks followed recent calls by opposition leaders urging President Tinubu to resign over what they described as conflicting explanations by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regarding the controversial PFIPC accounts.
According to the opposition, the differing accounts presented by the OAGF and the CBN before the House of Representatives had raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the administration.
The opposition maintained that while the OAGF reportedly denied authorising the accounts and alleged forgery, the CBN informed lawmakers that the accounts were opened based on directives from the Accountant-General after due process was followed.
The opposition argued that the conflicting positions had undermined public confidence and called on the president to apologise to Nigerians, order an independent investigation and resign if he could not restore confidence in his administration.
However, Yakubu maintained that demands for the president’s resignation were unwarranted at this stage, stressing that the matter remains before the courts and is also under investigation by the House of Representatives.
He urged political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid allowing partisan interests to overshadow due process, insisting that the outcome of the investigations should guide public judgment rather than speculation or political rivalry.
