The Nigerian Army on Monday said that troops of “Operation Hadin Kai,” have thwarted a fresh attempt by the Boko Haram terrorists to infiltrate and takeover Rann Town, the capital of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Spokesperson of the Nigeria Army, Brig-Gen Mohammed Yerima.
He stated that terrorists on Saturday, May 1, 2021, attempted to disrupt the peace that has been enjoyed by the border town but were engaged in a firefight that lasted about an hour.
Gen Yerima, however, said that the terrorists withdrew with fatal injuries and left behind several weapons and ammunition including anti-aircraft gun barrel, AK 47 rifle, handheld communication radio and different calibres of ammunition.
He added that in a related development, another band of Boko Haram terrorists on May 2, 2021, attacked Ajiri town of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State during which the troops engaged them.
According to the Army spokesman, “burnt nine houses and killed some innocent residents before they were engaged by the troops deployed in the area.
“The retreating terrorists went away with various degrees of gunshot injuries while the gallant troops are on their chase.”
He, however, regretted that during the encounter two personnel paid the supreme price.
He added that the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, while commending the troops for their resilience and determination to keep the areas free of terrorist activities charged them to sustain the renewed vigour in discharging their duties.
