A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, has urged the international community, particularly the United States, to commend rather than threaten Nigeria for its ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released on Friday, the lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I, appealed to the US President Donald Trump to reconsider his position on recent developments in Nigeria.
Adedeji said President Tinubu understands the country’s challenges and has been strengthening national security, citing the recent appointments in the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of his effort to restore peace.
“President Bola Tinubu, as a father, is not happy that bandits and terrorists continue to undermine the progress of his administration. This is why he has mandated the newly appointed service chiefs to put a final end to insecurity in the country. The current administration will not tolerate terrorism or its sponsors” Adedeji said.
The lawmaker, a ranking member of the Lagos Assembly, noted that in the past two years, global institutions have acknowledged Nigeria’s economic progress, highlighting falling inflation rates, increased investments, and industrial revitalization efforts.
“The Tinubu administration has opened new economic pathways. Inflation has begun to drop for the first time in years, and the government has attracted multi-billion-dollar investments while reviving dormant industries,” he said.
According to Adedeji, these gains have reflected positively on the naira and strengthened the financial standing of state governments.
He urged patience among Nigerians and called for international collaboration to sustain the country’s momentum.
“What Nigeria needs now is partnership from the U.S. and other nations, not threats. Our people must continue to support the government’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and trust that these reforms will yield lasting results” he added
Adedeji also encouraged the newly appointed service chiefs to rise to the task of ending insurgency and safeguarding the nation’s progress.
