The three persons who were abducted by gunmen, on Tuesday evening, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital have regained their freedom.
The victims including a couple were abducted by armed men in the Goshen community around the Ajibamidele area of the state capital, on Tuesday evening and whisked away to an unknown destination.
Reliable sources who spoke with Tribune Online said the victims were released in a bush around Igbara-Odo, Ekiti South West local government area of the state on Thursday night after the abductors collected a sum of N3 million as ransom.
The kidnappers had called to demand N10 million to release the victims but the families pleaded before it was reduced.
One of the sources said, “You know they were kidnapped on Tuesday evening and they called immediately to demand N10 million which the families begged them before it was reduced.
“After intense negotiation, the couple paid N2.5 million while they collected N500,000 from the other person making it a sum of N3 million. After collecting the money, they were released at a bush in Igbara-Odo on Thursday night.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the release of the three victims and said they have since reunited with their family members.
While denying knowledge of ransom payment, the police spokesman noted that they were let off the hook after a serious manhunt on the abductors by the combined team of security agents.
Abutu added that two suspects in connection with the crime have been arrested after a search operation in the bush.
