In order not to lose more youths to social vices, the church including church leaders have been charged not only to look beyond spirituality solutions in engaging the youths, but also to invest and provide more opportunities that will boost their dignity, self-respect, enhance their strength in all areas and constitute to the growing church.
The Senior Area Pastor of the Decross Gospel Mission Church, Ikeja Model Parish, Lagos, Reverend Bose Ogundimu gave this admonition at the thanksgiving service of the 25th anniversary of the church held recently with the theme, “My Season of Loud Halleluyah”, at Mangoro, Ikeja, Lagos. He added that it was imperative that the church should encourage, motivate and engage youths in the leadership qualities and virtues as laid down by Jesus Christ, as well as abiding in Christ right from youthful age.
“A leader should lead from the front, motivate and encourage the followers. The followers, most times, are motivated by the actions and body language of the leadership. This is what our youths must gain from our leaders. Dream big but above all place your dreams before the Most High and see Him perform wonders. Above all, all hands must be on deck to achieve anything as a church or a country. In our case, from the senior citizens among us to the little children, we committed to raising ourselves, physically and spiritually and we jointly contributed to the growth of the church,” she added.
She also noted that the 25th anniversary of the church was significant as it recorded a landmark event milestone, adding that, “the achievement can only be (achieved through) God and commitment of the visioner of the church, music legend, and renowned evangelist, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi; profound support of our amiable Deputy General Overseer, Bishop Afolarin Obey-Fabiyi; Parish Pastor, Pastor Tunji Odofin and the entire members.”
“Decross Ikeja has lots of plans in the pipeline and is already working towards achieving them. Activities to mark the anniversary were a testament that the church is impacting lives, its immediate community and the society at large. The event also marked the dedication of the church’s special project tagged; “Giving is Living” as the church provided water for the community as a way of reciprocating the warm reception given by the community for the propagation of the gospel.
In his remarks, the representative of the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Lanre Obey, congratulated the leadership of the church branch and the entire membership on the success of the church in the last 25 years, adding, “God and the visionary of the Church, my father, is indeed happy with the endless support and the commitment of everyone which has brought about the success the church has achieved so far. I pray that God will continue to strengthen us all.”
