The entertainment industry in the United Kingdom has received significant boost with the emergence of a new creative hub for entertainment stakeholders to network and share their material with a wide audience.
Named ‘Testing the Mic’, the convener, Daniel Okezue, said that the idea was borne out of the desire to create a platform for performing artistes of different forms and expressions can display their skills.
Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune recently, he said, “I started a community of artistes late last year where poets, spoken word artists, comedians, writers, musicians come together to discuss, share ideas and test their pieces. We first named the community ‘The Prolific Creative Hub’ and met at least once a month unconditionally. As the fan base grew bigger, we decided to expand to having live performances and then changed the event name to ‘Testing the mic’.
“Currently, we have held live events at the Lagos lounge in Bradford and then hosted a bigger show on March 30 at Eddies House, where I performed stand-up comedy”. There were oher comedy performances by Uncle P, Mr Larlah; music performances by Adedoyin Oseni (Sax), TeeBen, Olavocals, Admiral Josh, Dj Remmy, ManUp. We had spoken words and poetry performances by in house artists such as Raphael Olukoya(OFRA), Joachim Keke(Jojomanii), David Eke, Answer Ogbonnaya, Jayden.
“We have successfully created a platform where entertainment stakeholders in the UK can thrive and expand their network, and my hope is that this becomes a creative hub that will birth next-rated celebrities”, Okezue stressed.
