A retired career diplomat and National President, Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives, PIDAN, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, has stated that the terrorists behind attacks in Plateau State are connected to global networks, operating transnationally with the explicit goal of exploiting people’s vulnerabilities to take over land and resources.
Ambassador Sheni, who condemned attacks in communities of Plateau State in recent times, pointed out that the attacks are not merely an assault on Plateau State; they represent a broader attack on Nigeria’s diversity and unity, adding that the terrorist aims to sow discord, deepen divisions, and exploit our differences to fulfil their nefarious objectives.
Addressing newsmen, the PIDAN National President declared that if the killings remain unchecked, its ramifications for Nigeria’s stability, security, and prosperity will be catastrophic adding that communities will continue to suffer; lives will be lost; cultural heritage will be obliterated; economic instability and poverty will rise; and the threat to regional and global security will escalate.
According to him, Nigerians must stem the tide of monstrous criminality to save the Nigerian state.
He called on the international community, the federal and state governments, and all stakeholders to acknowledge the gravity of the plight of Nigerians under this siege and take immediate action to push back against terrorism.
Ambassador Sheni called for protection for the Nigerian nationals, including the Plateau State communities, preservation of way of life and justice for the victims of terrorism and genocide through the accelerated prosecutions as promised by the President.
He equally advocated for enhanced support initiatives towards counterterrorism and first-line defence for Nigerians and increased support for security agencies to effectively combat terrorism and genocide.
The PIDAN National President appealed to all Nigerian communities to close ranks and fight terrorism with the strength of unity and passion to build a peaceful society.
