The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) on Friday directed all telecommunication companies, including Globacom, MTN, Airtel, and Ntel to shut down their services with immediate effect for two weeks in Zamfara State over rising insecurity.
The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta said the action would enable relevant security agencies to carry out its activities of riding the state of terrorists.
A letter written to one of the telecommunication companies reads: “The pervading security situation in Zamfara State, has necessitated an Immediate shut down of all telecommunications services in the State from today September 03, 2021.
“This is to enable relevant security agencies carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state.”
The NCC directed the company to shut down all sites in Zamfara State and any site in neighbouring states that could provide telecommunications service in Zamfara State.
“The site shutdown is for two (2) weeks (September 03-17, 2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required,” the letter added.
