Tension as fire guts section of UI female hostel

Students scampered for safety as fire razed a section of the Queen Elizabeth Hall of the University of Ibadan, on Thursday.

The property of the affected students was destroyed but there was no record of loss of lives.

The incident which source could not be confirmed at the time of filing the report occured at exactly 1:43 am on Thursday.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service, Revd Akinyemi Akinyinka said, “The Agency received the distress call at exactly 01:43hrs from one Miss Ibikunle Hallen on Thursday 5th December, 2024.

“Immediately, fire personnel were deployed to the scene of incident and arrived in time.

“On getting to the place, it was discovered that two (2) rooms on the upper floor at Elizabeth Hall were affected.

“Only two(2) rooms were affected on the upper floor and properties worth billions were saved.

“No casualty was recorded. The Fire was completely extinguished together with UI FIRE SERVICE”.
