Ten die in Ondo auto crash, several others injured

No fewer than ten people lost their lives in two separate accidents which occurred in Ajowa Akoko in the Akoko North Local Government Area of Ondo state and at Akure, the state capital,

It was gathered that the crash occurred following the recklessness of the drivers of the two vehicles which left several others injured.

According to an eyewitness, the lone accident which happened in Akure, the state capital, happened around 4:30 am while the occupants of the new Toyota Camry were coming from midweek Clubbing

He explained that the owner of the vehicle who was still a learner over sped and somersaulted to the other side of the road, killing two of the occupants on the spot.

He said ” about seven boys who went for clubbing were in the vehicle while the incident happened and they were almost at their homes when the incident happened”

He said the two of the boys died on the spot while two others gave up at the hospital, two others are still receiving treatment at the hospital while one of the boys escaped unhurt.

Another six people died in Ajowa Akoko in another lone accident that involved a Benue state bound bus coming from Ogbomosho town in Oyo state.

According to an eye witness, who said the residents of the community were attracted by the noise of the accident in the early hour of Thursday morning.

He noted that the accident was caused by the early morning fog, over speeding and the recklessness of the driver of the commercial bus who fell off the bridge while travelling in the middle of the night.

He said the residents of the community who rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue the victims but said six people had given up before help could reach them while the vehicle caught fire.

He, however, said the injured were rushed to the hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) from the Ikare unit

The Ondo state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Rotimi Adeleye, also attributed the accident to the recklessness of the driver and the night journey.

He said the driver might also be tired, due to his sleeplessness and because one cannot cheat nature, it can cause accident especially while over speeding in the sharp corner close to the bridge.
