Teenager crushed to death in Delta

Published by

Tragedy struck on Tuesday at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Council, Delta State, as a tipper lorry driver crushed a teenager to death.

The girl, simply identified as Favour, was said to be the daughter of a police officer attached to the Oleh Divisional Police Station.

The incident, it was further learnt, occurred on Ogbemudia Expressway after Ogbodu Street, near the ever-busy tipper garage.

The minor was said to be crossing the road to her nearby public primary school, Owhara Primary School, when her life was cut short.

Sensing danger, the driver of the truck, who was reportedly on top speed, took to his heels after crushing the girl to death, to avoid mob action.

An angry mob had thronged the scene to catch a glimpse of the mangled body of the girl whose skull was crushed by the truck.

“On Tuesday morning, the deceased, a primary school pupil, was crossing to school when a tipper fully loaded with sand knocked her down. She died on the spot because her head was split into two.

“Later on, sympathisers, who rushed to the scene of the incident, identified the girl to be the daughter of a serving police officer at the Oleh Police Station.

The driver was on speed and didn’t see the girl in time,” an eyewitness told Metro.

Police source at the Oleh Police Station confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate and devastating.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, could not confirm the incident immediately when contacted.

Thou he requested that he should contacted 20 minutes after the first call put through to him, he did not pick the calls made to his phone afterwards before going to the press.
