The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Kelvin Faga, and his teenage accomplice for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping in an attempt to extort N200,000 from Kelvin’s father.
The command said Kelvin, who reportedly left home for church on July 20, 2026, did not return, prompting concern among family members.
According to the police, the family received a telephone call the following day from an unidentified caller who demanded a ransom of 20N0,000, claiming that the teenager had been kidnapped.
Following a report lodged at the B Division in Suleja, detectives commenced an investigation that led to the tracing of the missing boy to a hotel in Suleja, where he was found in the company of 17-year-old Mayowa Ojewuyi, popularly known as “Mayor.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Command, SP Abiodun Wasiu, said investigations revealed that the two teenagers had allegedly orchestrated the fake abduction.
He said the suspects confessed during interrogation that they planned to collect the ransom from Kelvin’s father and share the money between themselves.
Wasiu added that the suspects are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where further investigation is ongoing.
He said they would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
