THIRTEEN people were on Sunday morning killed by suspected herders in separate attacks on three communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The suspected herders were said to have stormed Tse-Lgar, Tse Magu and Tse Dudu communities.

A source informed the Nigerian Tribune on phone that eight persons were killed at Tse-Lgar, three at Tse-Magu and two at Tse-Dudu.

The source, an indigene of one of the communities, said the attackers invaded the communities in the early hours of Sunday while the villagers were still asleep.

He said: “People were still sleeping when they [gunmen] stormed the three communities at the same time and killed residents.

“Eight people were killed at Tse-Lgar, three people were killed at Tse-magu and two others killed at Tse-dudu in Daudu; so in all, 13 people were killed and some people were injured.”

When contacted, chairman of the local government area, Honourable Mike Uba, who spoke through the council’s security adviser, Christopher Waku, confirmed the attacks and the number of deaths.

Waku said: “Some suspected herders, again, in the early hours of today [Sunday] invaded three villages — Tse-Lgar, Tse-magu and Tse-Dudu. all in the local government and killed 13 people.”

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive information on the development.
