Students, others celebrate late Sheikh Ameenullahi in Ilorin

STUDENTS of the late national missioner of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdulRaheem Ameenullahi, popularly known as Oniwasi Agbaye, recently converged on the Muhammad Kamaldeen University (MKU), Ilorin, Kwara State, for the public presentation of a book written to immortalise the renowned preacher.

The presentation of the book written in both English and Arabic languages was part of activities that marked the 75th anniversary of Kamal School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, an Islamiyah school founded by the late Ameenullahi in 1949.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Moshood Jimba, reviewed the book.

Represented by Professor Abdulkadir Hussain, the book reviewer said the piece of work, a collection of top-grade and scholarly educational contributions, is meant to enrich the understanding of Muslims about Islamic teachings and practices.

The chairman of the central working committee of the anniversary, Professor Salihu Jamiu, said the commemorative events held in honour of the late founder of Kamal School of Arabic and Islamic Studies were geared towards raising funds for the transformation of the Islamic institute he founded 75 years ago.

The chairman of the occasion, Mr Sulyman Alapansanpa, described the late Ameenullahi as an enigma, a social crusader and an energetic scholar whose work and worth should always be a reference point to others.

In a sermon, the national missioner of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdulMumini Hanafi-Ayara, affirmed that late Ameenullahi, being a distinguished pupil of the late Sheikh Muhammad Kamaldeen Al-Adabby, served the Muslim world diligently through his preaching and educational centres.

At the closing ceremony of the events on  Sunday, distinguished former students of Kamal School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, were honoured with awards.

Some of the awardees include the Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen; president of the Adabiyyah Kamaliyah Alumni, Alhaji Nuhu Abbas; Ustaz Sakariyah Olesin, Mustapha AbdulKareem, Alhaji Jamiu Ajijola-Anabi, Alhaji Tunde Abiowa, Dr AbdulRasheed Yusuf, Alhaji Abubakar Oniyan, Mr Mohammed Dauda, Dr Ahmed Dauda Ahmed, Alhaji Usman Imam and Hajiya Moshkuroh Mustapha.

The Khalifa Adabiyyah, Sheikh AbdulKadir Kamaldeen; the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Soliu; the Imam Imale, Sheikh Abdullahi AbdulHameed; Imam Gambari, and Ajanasi Agba were some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
