No fewer than 870 individuals across the Southwest zone of the country have been selected to be trained in National Business Skills Development Initiative (NBSDI) programme across the region.
The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda made this known at a programme held at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo.
He added that, another group of 145 individuals are to be trained on entrepreneurship and empowered on hairdressing, tailoring and many other skills that could develop their psychomotor skills for efficient productivity at any given time.
Meanwhile, SMEDAN had trained nothing less than 5000 individuals in Osun State.
The Director-General of the agency further explained that the training activities are to ensure that these individuals are given practical skills that will enhance them to be self-independent and productive in their respective areas of specializations in society.
Dikko who pointed out that the objective of the programme is for the revitalization of rural areas economy disclosed that the training would last for two weeks.
Representing the Director-General of SMEDAN, in Osun State, Gbenga Ogundeji said, already, in August, the agency had concluded with one training in which equipment was distributed for beneficiaries in the Northern part of the country.
Umaru stated that the programme will reduce urban and rural migration and will revitalize rural areas economies.
“We were able to pick from all local government areas including rural areas so that, they will be able to benefit and operate anywhere they are, throughout the Federation and the multiplier of this kind of training will be huge in three to five years.”
Speaking, the Osun State Commissioner For Commerce, Industry & Cooperative, Dr Bode Olaonipekun said in collaboration with SMEDAN, the state has successfully engaged nothing less than 5000 individuals in the state as post-COVID-19 Intervention.
“SMEDAN has been our partner in progress from time immemorial. We have collaborated in time pass in developing the youth skills, business skills, enterprise development and small and micro business as well.
“We have jointly trained nothing less than 5000 individuals in Osun state. These are training in the area of hairdressing, catering, paint makings, pottery’s and other different vocations to make our entrepreneurs better than what they think they have been.”
He said Governor Gboyega Oyetola expect every indigene of the State, young and old not to depend on white-collar jobs alone no matter the academic qualification.
